Visit your doctor and then consult with your physical therapist. Your PT can perform a test to evaluate your PFSS to prescribe the right treatment for your condition. Exercise is one of the main treatments for PFSS. Many cases of PFSS are caused by tight muscles around the knees and hips or weakness in the muscles that help keep your kneecap in its right position. At times, equilibrium or proprioception impediments can be a factor leading to PFSS. Working to stretch and strengthen appropriate muscle groups can make a significant change in their condition. Here is a step-by-step exercise program that a physical therapist can prescribe for someone with the runner's knee. The exercises focus on improving the flexibility and strength of the muscles that support the knee and help maintain excessive knee stress. Before you start this, or any other exercise program, consult your doctor to make sure the exercise is safe for you. Quadriceps Strengthening The research indicates that weakness in its , specifically a quad area called the vastus medialis obliquus (VMO), can lead to the patellar and PFSS delineation. Working to strengthen your quad can be an important part of your PFSS exercise program. A simple way to strengthen your quadruples is with the quadruple set exercise. To exercise, just lie down with your knee straight and place a small towel under your knee. Press the knee down on the towel while tightening the quadruple muscle at the top of your thigh. Keep the muscle tight for 5 seconds, and then release. He is another exercise that can help improve the way the quadriceph muscle supports your kneecap. To do this, lie down and place a football or a roll of paper towel under your knee. Press your knee completely while holding your back against the ball. Keep your knee straight for 5 seconds, then release slowly. Repeat each exercise from 10 to 15 repetitions, twice a day. Straight leagues Straight leg increases are a great way to strengthen your quadriceps and hips by keeping your knee in a safe and painless position. During the erection of the right leg, the joint of the knee should remain closed, reducing stress and tension (and pain) around the knee. To perform a straight leg up, simply lie on your back with a straight knee and a knee bent. Press the muscle at the top of your right thigh and then lift your leg about 15 inches off the ground. It can make this exercise more difficult by adding a small sleeve weight around the ankle. Normally two or three pounds is enough. Another way to add resistance is to place a resistance band around the ankles for straight leg increases. Clam Shell The clamshell is a great exercise to do to improve the strength and recruitment of the hip muscles, specifically the . Your glutes help control the position of your knee, and the weakness here can be a cause of PFSS pain. To perform the clamshell, lie next to you with both knees bent. Press the abdominals and slowly lift the upper knee while keeping your feet together. Keep your knee up for a few seconds, then slowly down. Repeat exercise 15 to 25 times. You can make the clamshell exercise more difficult by placing one around your knees for exercise. Your PT can help you get a proper band for your condition. Isometric Gluteal Strengthening The strengthening of gluteus medius Isometric is a great way to improve the neuromuscular recruitment of your hips. This can help keep your legs - and labels - in the right alignment. To perform the exercise, lie on one side with the knees straight and with a belt wrapped around the ankles. Make sure it's not too tight; you should be able to lift your upper leg. Slowly lift the upper leg by keeping it straight, and press on the belt. You should feel your hip muscle working to lift your leg beyond, but the belt should be resisting your movement. Press on the belt for five seconds, then relax slowly. Perform the exercise for 10 repetitions, and then repeat it on the other side. Advanced hip strengthening Once you become a professional to perform the strengthening exercises of gluteus medius clamshell and isometric, it is time to move on to more advanced hip strengthening exercises. Bridges are a great way to strengthen your hips and core while working to keep your knees in the right alignment. You can modify your flange routine by adding a Swiss ball to the bridge or by exercising with your feet on a pillow or other unstable surface. Using a standing resistance band is a functional way to improve the strength and control of the hip while keeping your knees in the right alignment. This can help teach your body where your labels should be during functional activities such as walking and running. Plyometrics Running involves flying through the air and landing at a foot. That foot and leg are necessary to push you to fly in the air once again. Repeat over and over, and you're running. Pyometric exercises can be useful to help you treat the corridor's knee. You can start with simple equilibrium activities such as one leg position, and progress more with more dynamic equilibrium activities such as position T or working with a BOSU. Your physical therapist can evaluate your balance and prescribe the best exercises for you to work on keeping your knees in the right alignment to treat your PFSS.
